Terms of service
Last updated October 20, 2026
These terms govern your use of Caute (“Caute”, “we”, “us”), made by Axionary Labs, on the web, on iPhone, through the browser extension, by email and through the API. By creating an account or using Caute, you agree to them. If you don’t, please don’t use Caute.
1. What Caute is
Caute keeps what you save (web pages, files, email, recordings, notes and more) and makes it searchable. To do that, our servers process what you save: they extract its text, transcribe it, index it, and, for some features, send parts of it to the AI providers named in the privacy policy.
2. Who can use it
You must be at least 13, or the minimum age for consenting to online services where you live if that is higher. If you use Caute for an organisation, you confirm you may agree to these terms for it.
3. Your account
Keep access to your email address and your devices secure: anyone who can sign in as you can reach your library. Tell us at once if you think someone has. You are responsible for what happens under your account, including what apps and tokens you authorise do with the access you give them.
4. Your content
What you save stays yours. You give us a limited licence to store, copy, process, index and display it, and to send it to our service providers, only to run Caute for you: finding it, answering your questions about it, and showing it to the people and apps you share it with. We don’t use it to train AI models and we don’t claim any ownership of it.
You’re responsible for having the right to save what you save. Caute keeps copies of web pages and files for your own reference; publishing or sharing someone else’s work may need their permission.
5. Acceptable use
Don’t use Caute to:
- break the law or anyone’s rights, including copyright and privacy;
- store or share material that sexually exploits children, or that is otherwise illegal;
- distribute malware or use Caute to attack other systems;
- test, probe or get around its security, or reach data that isn’t yours, without our written permission;
- overload it beyond reasonable use, including by automated access that ignores rate limits;
- resell it or build a competing service by copying it.
We may remove content or suspend an account that breaks these rules, and report illegal material where the law requires. Where we can, we’ll tell you first and give you a chance to export your data.
6. AI features
Summaries, titles, picture descriptions and answers are produced by a language model from what you saved. Every sentence of an answer cites its source, but models make mistakes: check what matters against the source before relying on it.
7. Connected apps and AI assistants
You can connect other apps and AI assistants to Caute. They act with the access you approve and are governed by their own terms. Disconnect them in Settings at any time.
8. Plans, payment and cancelling
- The free plan has the limits shown on our pricing. Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, through Stripe, and renew until cancelled.
- Cancel from Settings → Plan → Manage billing; a cancelled plan runs to the end of the period you paid for. Payments aren’t refunded except where the law requires.
- Fair-use limits exist to stop abuse and are set well above normal use. If an account goes far beyond them, we’ll contact you before doing anything else.
- If a paid plan ends, nothing you saved is deleted or hidden; you just can’t add files beyond the free plan’s room.
- We’ll give at least 30 days’ notice by email of a price change to a plan you are on, and it takes effect from your next renewal.
9. Leaving, and taking everything with you
You can export everything you’ve saved, and delete your account, at any time from Settings → Your data. If we ever stop offering Caute, we’ll give you at least 90 days’ notice and keep export working until the end.
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or when the law requires. Unless the law prevents it, we’ll give you a chance to export first.
10. Availability and warranties
We work to keep Caute running and your data safe, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors. Caute is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind beyond those the law requires, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. Keep your own copies of anything you can’t afford to lose; export makes that easy.
11. Limits of our liability
To the extent the law allows, Axionary Labs isn’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of Caute. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it, or US$100, whichever is greater. Nothing here limits liability that can’t be limited by law.
12. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll email you and say so in the app at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Using Caute after that means you accept the new terms; if you don’t, you can export your data and close your account.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Iowa, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts in Johnson County, Iowa, unless the consumer-protection law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim there.
