Plans and billing
Caute has four plans: Free, Pro, Pro+ and Team. Saving, search, summaries and titles cost nothing extra on any of them. Asking questions and writing briefs use credits, which every plan includes each month.
What each plan includes
| Free | Pro | Pro+ | Team | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | $8 a month, or $72 a year | $16 a month, or $144 a year | $14 per member a month |
| Links, notes and email | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Files | 1 GB | 50 GB | 200 GB | 100 GB per member, shared |
| Transcription | 1 hour a month | 20 hours a month | 60 hours a month | 20 hours per member a month |
| Summaries and titles | Included | Included | Included | Included |
| Credits for Ask and briefs | 20 a month | 70 a month | 200 a month | 175 per member a month, shared |

| AI assistant connections | 200 calls a day | Fair use | Fair use | Fair use |
| Shared spaces, roles and an activity log | Included |
Prices are in US dollars, before tax. On Team, files, transcription and credits are pooled across the team, and the price follows the number of members as people join or leave.
On every plan, each connected assistant may save 50 cards a day, and export and deleting your account are never limited.
Credits
A question in Ask uses 1 credit, or 2 on Gemini Pro. A brief uses 8, or 20 on Gemini Pro. With your own model key they use none.
- The month's credits renew on the first of each month.
- The month's credits are used first, then any you bought.
- A question that fails, or finds nothing to send, costs nothing.
- Saving, search, summaries, titles and picture descriptions never use credits.
If you run out, Caute says how many a question or brief needs and when your credits renew. Search still works. Packs of 100 credits for $15 or 300 for $40 can be bought on Plan and billing, and they never expire.
Choosing the model, and your own key
On Pro+ and Team, an owner or admin can choose which model answers Ask and writes briefs, under Which AI answers on Privacy and AI. Each choice shows what a question and a brief cost in credits.
You can also add your own API key, from Google for Gemini, from Anthropic for Claude, or from OpenAI for ChatGPT, under Use your own AI. Claude and ChatGPT models answer only with your own key. With a key, Ask and briefs cost no credits: the company bills you instead. A Claude or ChatGPT subscription doesn't include an API key; it is billed separately. Your questions, and the passages from your cards that answer them, then go to that company under your own agreement with them, at your own risk. Caute keeps the key sealed, checks it first, and never shows it again, only its last four characters. Spaces kept away from AI stay away, and summaries and titles still use Caute's own Gemini. At a limit
A limit never hides or deletes anything you caught. Everything already kept stays readable, searchable and exportable on every plan. Instead:
- New work is refused, with a reason. When your files are full, new files aren't taken until there's room. Daily limits, such as a connected app's saves, reset at midnight UTC.
- Or a step is skipped and the card says why, on its Info tab. The card itself still works.
Plan and billing in Settings
Plan and billing shows each workspace you own: its plan, when it renews, and how much of its files, transcription, credits and assistant calls it has used. Only a workspace's owner sees its plan.
To move from Free to a paid plan, choose one there. Payment happens on Stripe's own pages, and your plan changes as soon as Stripe confirms it, usually within a minute. Once you pay, Manage billing opens Stripe's pages to change plan, update your card or cancel. Credit packs are bought on the same page. The iPhone app sells nothing: plans are bought on the web.
Cancelling
Cancel from Manage billing. Your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for, and Plan and billing shows the date it ends. After that the workspace is on Free. Nothing is deleted or hidden: Free's limits apply to new work only, so a library over 1 GB stays readable, searchable and exportable, and simply takes no new files until it has room.
Deleting your account also cancels a paid plan. See Privacy and your data.
